Castrol Hyspin AWS 46 is Castrol’s ISO VG 46 anti-wear mineral hydraulic oil, and this is the genuine 20 litre pail supplied by Harlow Lubricants as an authorised Castrol distributor. Which equipment approvals does Castrol Hyspin AWS 46 carry?
Castrol’s product data sheet lists Hyspin AWS as approved by Parker Hannifin (Denison) HF-0, HF-1 and HF-2 and Eaton E-FDGN-TB002-E, and as meeting DIN 51524 Part 2, Fives Cincinnati P70, ASTM D6158 HM, ISO 11158 HM, US Steel 126 and GB 11118.1 L-HM for the appropriate viscosity grade. If your press or machine-tool manual names one of those, Hyspin AWS 46 is the oil it is asking for.

What is Castrol Hyspin AWS 46 used for?
ISO VG 46 is the default grade for stationary industrial hydraulics in the UK: presses, injection moulding machines, machine tools and power-pack systems running at a fairly steady temperature. Castrol’s data sheet also lists Hyspin AWS as suitable for lightly loaded gears, variable-speed units and bearings.
For mobile plant, outdoor equipment or sites in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa where the oil sees wide temperature swings, the high-viscosity-index Hyspin AWH-M 46 is the better fit.
Is Castrol Hyspin AWS 46 the same as Hyspin AWH-M 46?
No — Hyspin AWS 46 is the standard anti-wear HLP oil (DIN 51524 Part 2) for indoor industrial hydraulics at a steady temperature, while Hyspin AWH-M 46 is the high-viscosity-index HVLP version (DIN 51524 Part 3) for equipment that sees wide temperature swings. Same ISO grade, different specification; check which one the machine manual calls for.
Do not confuse it with Hyspin AWH-M 46 (high viscosity index) or Hyspin ZZ 46 (zinc-free). We will check the grade you ask for against your equipment before we quote.
What are the equivalents to Castrol Hyspin AWS 46?
If you are consolidating brands across a site, the like-for-like ISO VG 46 oils we stock are Shell Tellus S2 MX 46, Mobil DTE 25 Ultra and Fuchs Renolin ZAF 46B. All meet DIN 51524 Part 2 HLP; check the OEM approval you need before switching, and never mix mineral hydraulic oil with fire-resistant or environmentally acceptable fluids.
Pack sizes, price and delivery
This page is the 20 litre pail. The same oil is available as a 208 litre drum and as a 1,000 litre IBC on request; drums work out cheaper per litre once a site uses more than about 200 litres a month. Prices are quoted per enquiry, the same working day; orders over €10,000 receive a 10% discount and we price-match like-for-like genuine product.
